Avoid Buying a Home When…
Buying a house, expenses buying home, buying or selling a home
When you are in the process of purchasing a house, there are some things
that should act as a warning bell and indicate that you would be better
off with another property. Sometimes vendors are not entirely honest about
the disadvantages of the house he or she is selling. It would cost you
a lot to have every house you see vetted by an expert, but if you look
out for certain signs, you will be eliminating many undesirable [properties
from your list of possible purchase yourself.
What are these warning signs? You should avoid buying a home when:
Everyone seems to be moving out of the neighbourhood in question
If you like a house, take a look around the neighbourhood. A lot of ‘for
sale’ signs in the area should make you wonder why everyone wants to leave
the neighbourhood. There is probably a good reason for the area’s unpopularity
and in that case you would not want to be stuck with a house here.
The home is poorly maintained
When you see that a house is in poor repair, with problems being ignored,
avoid buying it. There are likely to be many issues to deal with so look
elsewhere, unless you are looking for a fixer upper.
The foundation is weak or damaged
Take a look at the yard, and make sure it doesn’t slope towards the building
– this may result in water damage to the foundation. Avoid a house which
has lumps or cracks larger than a third of an inch in the foundation.
There are unpleasant odours
Make it a point to smell the atmosphere both inside and outside the house
you are thinking of buying. Unpleasant odours are a sign of big trouble,
and you should look out for excessively pleasant odours that may have
been used to mask a vile smell.
The wiring is of poor quality, or worn out
Even if you know nothing about electricity, there are certain things you
can check on. Look at the plug points, try out light switches and keep
an eye out for malfunctions like unsteady lighting, damaged circuits and
so on. The are around the plug point should not be warm
