Things to Avoid While Looking for a Home
Things look while buying house, home buying tips, first home buying
guide
Here are some of the things you should avoid doing when you are looking
for a home:
Don’t do it on your own
When you are planning to purchase a home, you could just call the numbers
you see on ‘for Sale’ signs on properties, but this is inadvisable for
several reasons. It is not a very safe thing to do, you could waste a
lot of time looking at irrelevant houses, and thirdly, you will be better
off with a real estate agent, with regard to financial aspects, domain
knowledge and experience. You can always tell your agent about properties
you come across and are interested in, and then let him or her do the
rest.
Don’t hurry things
Keep plenty of time in hand when you are looking at several homes – if
you are interested, you may take longer than you think. Keep distances
between the homes in mind as well.
Go along with your agent
Use a single vehicle when you go looking at properties. You will save
on gas and time, and it’s good for the environment, too. You will also
have time to discuss the houses you have seen with your real estate agent.
Don’t get into situations where you need to use the bathroom
Many of the homes you see will be unoccupied, and the bathrooms in such
houses are likely to be ill-equipped.
Wear comfortable, slip-on shoes
Some homes may require visitors to remove their footwear in order to avoid
damage to new floors. So you are better of with shoes that you can get
on and off easily.
Look everywhere
Carefully examine every space – open every door, closet, cabinet and cupboard.
You don’t want to miss anything, and you don’t want to make false assumptions
about the facilities available.
Be careful about what you say
A seller could well be listening to your comments without your being aware
of this, so it is best not to make rude or personal remarks about he house.
If you notice negative aspects, you can tell your realtor about them later,
in private.
Be frank with your realtor
Don’t be shy about expressing your candid opinion to your realtor. He
or she needs to know what your likes and dislikes are, and your feedback
will help streamline the home buying process.
